SXSW 2012: Goody Awards Launches to Recognize Social Good via Twitter

Santa Monica, CA (PRWEB) March 09, 2012

To enhance the social media experience for users, the Goody Awards launches today at SXSW Interactive by announcing a new online recognition program, their first awards, and a mobile site (http://goodyawards.com) that can be accessed on multiple devices (smartphone, tablet or computer.) This new social media service lets users give real-time Social Good Shout Outs to anyone anytime doing good via Twitter (http://twitter.com/goodyawards.) CEO and Founder, Liz H Kelly, explained, While CNN Heroes does a great job recognizing a few do-gooders, the Goody Awards will let everyone publicly thank the millions doing social good as soon as it happens.

Users can now tweet 3 Goody Awards (Good Deed Goody, Hero Goody and Team Goody) immediately to give a public recognition to someone who gave great advice, brought them soup when sick, invented something that helps the environment, hosted a charity event, raised money for a cause or helped thousands impacted by cancer. These #Shoutouts can be done in minutes versus months with a tweet that includes 3 things: #GoodyAwards, the Goody Awards type (#GoodDeedGoody, #HeroGoody, #TeamGoody), and the WHY behind their award. Good Deed Goodys let users thank someone for the little things that really matter. Hero Goodys are for anyone who is your hero (based on your definition), and Team Goodys can be given to a group or organization doing something extraordinary.

To kick off this social media recognition program, Goody Awards announces their first official awards that highlight social good stars during Oscars 2012 events. These first awards are prominently displayed in the photo slideshow on GoodyAwards.com mobile site:

1. The first Good Deed Goody goes to Actress Shailene Woodley @Shailene_Wood for raising global issues of Food, Genocide and Philanthropic work when she won the Best Supporting Female for her role in The Descendants at the Independent Spirit Awards.

2. The first Hero Goody goes to Designer Oliver Tolentino @DesignerOliverT for his Eco-Coutour Collection displayed on the green carpet at Global Green’s USA Pre-Oscar Party.

3. The first Team Goody goes to Red Eye @RedEyeInc for providing a common ground for people to develop their talents and help those in need through networking and giving back to charities such as LA’s Children’s Hospital and the NYC Dream Center. Red Eye is based in LA and NYC with chapters in Sydney, London, Paris and soon Milan.

Two Special Awards for Superstars and Golden Goodys will involve more time and thought. The Superstar of the Month will be a user-driven award based on votes on the Goody Awards Facebook page http://facebook.com/goodyawards. Superstar Awards may also be sponsored by brands who want to promote social good through a Goody Awards campaign. Golden Goodys are the top award, similar to an Oscar in the Entertainment world, and will be given initially by the Goody Awards Guild Advisory Board, and later as part of the Annual Goody Awards Show.

The first Superstar Goody Awards is being presented to Beat Liver Tumors for their inspirational work providing Hope to those impacted by Cancer, including writing 191 appeals for treatment, connecting 691 piers and taking over 6,000 calls in the past year. Suzanne Lindley, Founder, Executive Director @BeatLiverTumors, asked everyone to sign a photograph of HOPE drawn in the sand at the recent Eco-Oscars Music, Celebrity, and Pet Style Lounge event in Beverly Hills, CA.

The first Golden Goody Award is being presented to Fashion Hope for their continual work raising awareness and funds in the fashion industry to help rehabilitate survivors of human trafficking, along with their April Cause Commerce initiative with WishPond.com that will showcase the best in ethical fashion and 25% of the proceeds will go to Fashion Hope to prevent human trafficking. With its recent participation at the Alive! Expo Green Pavilion/Fortunate Angels Oscars Gifting Suites, its not only garnered over 250 signatures of celebrities, agents, media and common every day people, but its now taking this Pledge to the Cannes Film Festival, and Fashion Weeks all over the globe. With the power images of photographer Steven James Collins, their message that slavery still exists is loud and clear.

And lastly, the first Global Golden Goody Award goes to Anand Mahindra @AnandMahindra of Mahindra Mahindra, who employs over one million people worldwide. Through his generous support and partnership with the Sundance Institute, four winning Directors and projects received grants at Sundance 2012 to make films with powerful messages including Etienne Kallos, Vrystaat, Free State from South Africa; Dominga Sotomayor, Late To Die Young from Chile, Ariel Kleiman, Partisan from Australia and Shonali Bose, Margarita.
