Tough talk for returning Brock Lesnar in advance of UFC 141

SANTA MONICA, Calif. – Video clips released this year by this or that sponsor have given MMA fans short glimpses into Brock Lesnar’s May return from a second bout of diverticulitis.

Today, everyone got a good, long look at Lesnar. By all appearances, the same ornery, smirking heavyweight is back. All 278 pounds of him.

“I’m back,” Lesnar crowed at a press conference promoting his title eliminator against Alistair Overeem at UFC 141.

“The Ultimate Fighter 13″ could do record ratings, but will Brock Lesnar benefit?

With today’s official unveiling of Brock Lesnar and Junior Dos Santos as “The Ultimate Fighter 13″ coaches, the Spike TV reality series could see its biggest ratings since the record-breaking 10th season.

That’s when Kevin “Kimbo Slice” Ferguson, Roy Nelson and a host of other heavyweights brought unparalleled attention to the six-year-old series.

Lesnar, the UFC’s pay-per-view kingpin, undoubtedly will stir interest in “TUF,” which debuts March 30. But the added exposure has been a mixed bag for past coaches.

Is Bobby Lashley The Next Brock Lesnar?

Is Bobby Lashley The Next Brock Lesnar?

Many in the media have made the comparison between Bobby Lashley and UFC Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar. It’s only a natural comparison to make since Lashley and Lesnar both come from similar backgrounds. Lashley is a a former National Amateur Wrestling champion at Missouri Valley College, winning championships between 1996 and 1998. Lashley also NAIA (National Association of INtercollegiate Athletics) National wrestling champion. He then joined the United States Army and at one time was looking at making the Olympics but injured his knee when breaking up a bank robbery. Instead, Bobby was recruited and signed to WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment).

He left WWE in 2007 after a high profile match that involved Vince McMahon and Donald Trump serving as ringside representatives. He was invited by Dana White to be on the show. It didn’t work out because Bobby already had a fight scheduled with Bob Sapp and that would have occurred during the taping of the Ultimate Fighter show.

The guys he’s fought have trained for years full time and have given most of their lives to MMA. Fedor is a world class fighter on a whole different level.

The thing that makes Bobby Lashley that much more impressive is that he is racking up these wins in MMA, with his most recent victory over Wes Sims in Strikeforce, while still continuing his career in professional wrestling. He is seen every week on TNA: Total NonStop Action Wrestling on Spike TV with Hulk Hogan.

There are rumblings from fans and some in the media about a fight with Fedor. The most recent stories coming out are regarding a potential fight with Brett Rogers. That would be a step up for Lashley, a step i’m sure he’s ready for. Perhaps if he beats Rogers then maybe a fight with Fedor would be the next logical step. I see enough in Lashley that he could very well the next big main event fighter. One day we may all be asking who will be the next Bobby Lashley?
