With UFC champ St-Pierre livid, Condit gives way to Diaz for Super Bowl weekend fight

LAS VEGAS – Once again, Nick Diaz proves to be just the right kind of crazy.

Moments after defeating MMA legend B.J. Penn in the main event of
Saturday night’s UFC 137 event, Diaz told a Mandalay Bay Events Center
crowd he thinks UFC champ Georges St-Pierre faked an injury in order to
avoid a fight.

The move earned St-Pierre’s attention, and UFC president Dana White said
Carlos Condit has agreed to step aside in order to make the fight it
seems everyone now wants to see.

UFC champ Frankie Edgar committed to lightweight, but ‘open for a lot of things’

Frankie Edgar doesn’t want to drop to featherweight just yet. He is the UFC lightweight champion.

“I want to defend that,” Edgar today told MMAjunkie.com.

Has he considered 145 pounds? Absolutely. And it’s nice, in theory, to have the option of fighting in either weight class. But the way he feels right now, he’d like to stay put.

Champ Jones insists Jackson’s barbs falling short and will earn respect at UFC 135

UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones has long looked up to Georges
St-Pierre, and he shares a trainer with his fellow champ in Greg
Jackson.

No doubt Jones admires St-Pierre’s technique, but also his poise and
cool under fire in the pressure cooker of the spotlight.

Jones also shares the welterweight champ’s dislike for the attention that
accompanies a belt. Like St-Pierre, he doesn’t much enjoy the endless
merry-go-round of interviews and time they take from training. Not only
are they a distraction, but they also invite the kind of talk that
distracts from his advancement as a martial artist.

Diaz shocked St-Pierre didn’t try to keep UFC 137 fight, has choice words for champ

It was one of the most shocking stories in mixed martial arts history.

Former Strikeforce champion Nick Diaz, handed the biggest opportunity of his career, no-showed a pair of pre-event press conferences and was pulled from a UFC 137 fight with UFC title-holder Georges St-Pierre.

The world struggled to make sense of the situation, and honestly, so has Diaz, himself. The fiery Californian admits he dropped the ball, but he’s shocked St-Pierre went along for the ride. And that supposed disdain for the press? Garbage, says Diaz. Media members should feel free to stop by his gym anytime.
