Choosing the Right Bjj Gi for Jiu Jitsu Competition

Choosing the Right Bjj Gi for Jiu Jitsu Competition

Article by Shakib Nassiri

Imagine you are slowly shaping up as a professional Submission Fighter. It is good news for you and the people around you such as your parents, friends and more importantly your coach. You would be hyped up to take part in the Jiu Jitsu competitions quite regularly. In such an event how would you choose the right Bjj Gi for Jiu Jitsu competition?

When you choose the right Bjj Gi for Jiu Jitsu competition ensure that you select and pick the best one from a reputable online Bjj store. Remember that comfort matters more that the style of your Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Gi. While you compete with your opponent in a Jiu Jitsu competition you should feel comfortable inside your Jiu Jitsu gear. This will enable you to compete well and compete with confidence. To feel comfortable while engaging in a Jiu Jitsu combat make sure to choose the right Bjj Gi.

The most important of the factors that should be looked into while selecting the best type of Jiu Jitsu Gi is the one concerned with the weight of the gear. There are two types of gear available, namely, the lightweight and the heavyweight. The lightweight Bjj Gi is the most comfortable one while taking part in a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu competition. This is to enable you to fight with confidence. You have to know that there is no difference in the quality of the fabric used in the making of the lightweight and the heavyweight types of Jiu Jitsu Gi. The quantity alone differs. Single weave Gis are lightweight in character where as double weave Gis are heavyweight in character. The quantity of fabric used in the single weave Gis is less where as the quantity of fabric used in the making of double weave Gis is more. This is the only difference between the two types of the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Gis. Your option should be to select the single weave Gi in the event of taking part in a Jiu Jitsu competition.

Are there advantages of using a double weave Jiu Jitsu Gi? There is of course a big advantage in the use of the double weave Bjj Gi. The opponent would find it difficult to hold you due to the thickness of the jacket thanks to the inclusion of more fabric in it. Now it is clearly understood that the Jiu Jitsu pants would not make much of a difference or an impact while selecting the Bjj Gi. It is the selection of the jacket that matters the most when it comes to participation in the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu competition. The single weave Jiu Jitsu Gi has other advantages too apart from being lightweight. It is very easy to wash a single weave Bjj Gi whereas washing a double weave Bjj Gi is slightly difficult. All said and done if you are able to choose the right Bjj Gi then you are sure to do well in the Jiu Jitsu competition much to the delight of your coach and the people around you.

World Cyber Games Announces Official Titles for 2006 Competition

(PRWEB) February 17, 2006

The World Cyber Games Committee today announced the eight titles that will serve as official games for the 2006 World Cyber Games. The six PC games and 2 console games includes: StarCraft®: Brood WarTM (PC); Warcraft®?: Frozen Throne (PC); Half-Life®: Counter-Strike 1.6 (PC); Warhammer® 40,000: Winter Assault (PC); FIFA Soccer 06 TM(PC); Need for Speed TM: Most Wanted (PC); Dead or Alive® 4 (Xbox 360) and Project Gotham Racing® 3 (Xbox 360).

These will serve as the official events at the 2006 Grand Final in Monza, Italy this October. Organizers are particularly excited by the inclusion of Project Gotham Racing on the Xbox 360 since the Grand Final event will be held at the world famous F1 Autodromo in Monza, known throughout the racing world as the premiere racing facility on the Formula 1 circuit.

In addition, the Counter-Strike competition has been changed from ‘Source’ to ‘1.6’ to facilitate better operation of tournaments leading up to the Grand Final. This move comes as a result of player feedback on the World Cyber Games website following last year’s successful event in Singapore.

Meanwhile, the World Cyber Games Committee also announced the staging of WCG Pan-regional Championships in Europe, Asia and the Americas, to promote the spread of the e-Sports industry globally. Following the success of the WCG Euro Championship staged during CeBit 2005 in Hannover, Germany last year, WCG Pan-regional Championships are planned for each region. This will allow gamers to participate in and enjoy marquee events with the World Cyber Games throughout the year. With e-sports growing each year, these events will also serve to enhance brand awareness for the World Cyber Games among IT industry watchers in each region.

The WCG 2006 Euro Championship begins March 9 at CeBit 2006 with about 200 gamers from 20 European countries. The WCG 2006 Asian Championship is scheduled to debut at the PC Show 2006 in Singapore, the biggest IT Exhibition in the region, in June and WCG 2006 Pan-American Championship is slated for the Electronic Gaming Show 2006 in Mexico, the largest game show in Central and South America.

The World Cyber Games Committee will soon announce the official rules and regulations in addition to official maps for the preliminary rounds in each country’s respective national championship.

The WCG 2006 Grand Final will be held October 18th through 22nd at F1 Autodromo, in Monza, Italy.

‘Strikeforce on NBC’ Slams Competition

San Jose, CA (PRWEB) May 22, 2008

The fifth episode of “Strikeforce on NBC” (www.strikeforceus.net), the first-ever weekly mixed martial arts cage fight program on one of the four major national television networks in the U.S, topped the average ratings of both ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live” and CBS’s “Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson,” both of which air several hours earlier during weeknights, in the 18-34 year old male category of viewers during the week of May 5, 2008.

The .5 rating drawn by “Strikeforce on NBC” in the 18-34 year old male category beat the ratings of “Jimmy Kimmel Live” on four of the five weeknights that the ABC show airs, and tied Kimmel’s ratings on the fifth night. The Strikeforce program bested the ratings of “The Late, Late Show with Craig Ferguson” on all five weeknights and tied the Thursday and Friday night ratings of CBS’s “The Late Show With David Letterman” that week, in the same demographic group.

The overall viewership of “Strikeforce on NBC,” which airs immediately following “Poker After Dark” every Saturday night (check your local listings for show time), has increased by an astronomical 197%, from 319,000 to 949,000, including a 58% jump between the two most recently reported weeks (949,000 from 602,000).

“We’re pleased to see our product gaining momentum on network TV,” said Strikeforce CEO, Scott Coker. “The series has proven to be a highly effective way of creating new Strikeforce fans throughout the country and we’re looking forward to delivering more action-packed programming to NBC viewers throughout the year.”

Co-hosted by mixed martial arts legend, Ken Shamrock, and award-winning ESPN announcer, Lon McEachern, “Strikeforce on NBC” is a 52 week series. Each episode runs 30 minutes and is comprised of fighter profiles as well as Strikeforce MMA fights and highlights.

About Strikeforce

Strikeforce (www.strikeforceus.net) is a world-class mixed martial arts cage fight promotion which, on Friday, March 10, 2006, made history with its “Shamrock vs. Gracie” event, the first sanctioned mixed martial arts fight card in California state history. The star-studded extravaganza, which pitted legendary champion Frank Shamrock against Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt Cesar Gracie at San Jose’s HP Pavilion, played host to a sold-out, record crowd of 18,265. Since 1995, Strikeforce has been the exclusive provider of martial arts programming for ESPN and, after 12 years of success as a leading, world championship kickboxing promotion, the company unveiled its mixed martial arts series with “Shamrock vs. Gracie.” Since then, it has co-produced the first SHOWTIME PPV mixed martial arts event in history with its world championship “Shamrock vs. Baroni” card on June 22, 2007.

Ask the Fight Doc: Should slams be banned in MMA competition?

Dr. Johnny BenjaminAfter Gerald Harris used a jarring body slam to knock out Dave Branch at UFC 116, Strikeforce women’s welterweight champion Sarak Kaufman did the same to Roxanne Modafferi at this past weekend’s Strikeforce Challengers 9 event.

Under the unified rules of MMA, using a slam to break free of an opponent’s guard or submission attempt is perfectly legal.

But in our latest “Ask the Fight Doc” installment, MMAjunkie.com medical columnist Dr. Johnny Benjamin weighs in on whether the competitive benefits outweigh the injury risk.
