Like champ Cruz, Wineland plans to bully Benavidez at UFC on Versus 5
To date, just one fighter has implemented a game plan to beat Joseph Benavidez.
But Eddie Wineland, who meets Benavidez at Sunday’s UFC on Versus 5 event, thinks he’s just the guy to replicate that strategy.
After all, when it comes to their striking styles, Wineland sees a lot of similarities between himself and Dominick Cruz, a fighter who recently defeated Benavidez and now holds the belt that Wineland christened back in 2006.

Patient Daniel Cormier plans to control Jeff Monson, make Strikeforce statement
DALLAS – Since making his professional mixed martial arts debut in
September 2009, undefeated heavyweight prospect Daniel Cormier has made it clear he’s in no rush to make it to the top.
Let my skills develop, he said. Let me take my Olympic-level wrestling talent and hone a complete skillset.
On Saturday night, the time to wait may be over. Cormier takes on
near-14-year veteran Jeff Monson at the
Showtime-broadcast “Strikeforce: Overeem vs. Werdum” event. Win, and
Cormier transitions from prospect to contender.
Boxing promoter confident UFC won’t scratch his Nick Diaz plans
Boxing promoter Don Chagrin has made a deal to put Nick Diaz in the
boxing ring with former IBF super-middleweight champion Jeff Lacy and
hopes to avoid a contractual confrontation over MMA.
Today’s announcement that Diaz and Lacy will box this fall was met by a
caveat from Diaz manager Cesar Gracie, who said the fight could be
shelved if the UFC offered the Strikeforce welterweight champ a fight
with UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre.
“I don’t want to get into a thing,” Chagrin today told MMAjunkie.com. “I’ve got a contract. If the UFC fight comes up,
then we can talk.

UFC 122′s Kris McCray plans on getting the last scoop of mashed potatoes
When describing a fighter making his first-ever cut to the welterweight
division, one would assume the use of food as a metaphor would likely
prove unwelcome.
Not so for “The Ultimate Fighter 11″ finalist Kris McCray. The former middleweight says his upcoming fight with Carlos
Eduardo Rocha at this weekend’s UFC 122 event in
Germany is like heading out the company barbecue, and there’s no way his
Brazilian opponent is getting the last helping on the buffet line.
“The training is the work,” McCray told MMAjunkie.com Radio. “The fun is when you know you’re going to fight.
It’s like when you work, and at the end of the quarter your company has a
barbecue. That’s how I feel fighting is.”
