WEC 48 Fight Card Recap

WEC 48 Fight Card Recap

Article by Sarah Michaels

WEC 48 is in the books and it was one of the most exciting cards in recent memory. The headlining fight featured Jose Aldo defending his featherweight title against popular former champion Urijah Faber. It was a fight that many of Faber’s fans were looking forward to — the hometown crowd in Sacramento, California was full of people wearing his fight shirt and other apparel. However, even the support of the more than 14,000 people at Arco Arena couldn’t help Faber overcome the continual pressure of the Brazilian champion.

Making his first defense of the WEC title he won against Mike Brown at WEC 47, Aldo was dominant for most of the fight. He was able to trap him in a crucifix during the fourth round while peppering him with shots while dropping him several times with hard shots during the fight. In the end, Aldo was simply too big and too strong for Faber, claiming a unanimous decision to retain the title. Aldo is clearly a rising force in MMA, while Faber suffered his third consecutive loss in a title fight. Still, he’s one of the most popular fighters in the sport and as long as his MMA shirt still sells, he’ll continue to get quality fights.

The undercard featured several intriguing fights, including the lightweight title fight between Ben Henderson and Daniel Cerrone. From the outside, it was clear that Henderson had brought his fight gloves and was ready to get to work. Unlike the two fighters’ first fight in October 2009 that was a five-round thriller, this bout was over before it started as Henderson was able to hook in a guillotine choke and force Cerrone to submit early in the first round.

The WEC Custom Mouthguards. Made exclusively for WEC by Fightdentist.com, now you can get your own custom fitted mouth-guard! The most important reason in having a custom mouth-guard is the fact that upon rapid impact of the mouth or chin toward the base of the skull can cause trauma to your teeth and head. A custom-fitted guard creates a consistent amount of material between your teeth. This material creates a “bumper” so that when a blow to the mouth area or chin occurs there is less of a chance of your lower jaw hitting the base of your skull. Non-custom guards do not conform to the contours of your teeth and mouth and do not have a consistent amount of material as well as do not usually cover every tooth, which an essential factor in mouthguard protection. Mix the contents of the package together and do an impression of your teeth. Send this impression off to our laboratories with the included postage paid label. A custom fitted mouth-guard is created and will be returned to you in approximately 2-3 weeks! Plus the WEC logo will adorn the front of the guard, and your name will be on the side. Compare these custom mouth-guards to others created by professional dentists that retail for 0-0! International orders will incur additional freight charges.

Bellator 44 recap: Chandler tames “Pitbull,” Lombard drops Vitale

The age-old truism that good wrestlers dictate the direction of a fight
proved true in the finals of Bellator’s season-four lightweight
tournament. And the less-worn truism that wrestlers aren’t the most
accurate strikers was also borne out.

Bellator season-four finalist Michael Chandler, a four-time NCAA
qualifier at Division I Missouri, gave opponent Patricky Freire no space
to unleash the devastating strikes that felled others and earned a
unanimous decision that put $ 100,000 in his pocket.

The contest served as the main event of Saturday night’s Bellator 44
event, which took place at New Jersey’s Ceasars Atlantic City and aired
on MTV2.
