Joe ‘Diesel’ Riggs Joins the WheyUP Team
| Gilbert, Ariz. (PRWEB) June 2, 2008
Joe “Diesel” Riggs, a world-class Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fighter from Glendale, Ariz., has joined the WheyUP team. Under this agreement, WheyUP becomes the “official sports drink” of Riggs and has exclusive rights to use his name and likeness in connection with the advertisement, promotion and sale of WheyUP.
Besides supplying drinks for Riggs during training, the up-and-coming beverage company will also provide Riggs with T-shirts, caps, stickers and patches to wear during competition, training and media interviews. Riggs is preparing for his upcoming bout in the Strikeforce Fighting Championship organization, where he will fight feared Brazilian striker, Cyborg, on the undercard of the Gilbert Melendez/Josh Thomson lightweight championship fight at San Jose’s HP Pavilion on June 27.
“WheyUP is building a strong presence in the MMA community with not only the fighters but the fans as well,” said WheyUP founder and President Erik Rothchild. “WheyUP is a next generation sports drink that fuels extreme workouts, and Joe Riggs is one of the most exciting MMA fighters in the world. It’s a great partnership and we’re thrilled to have him join the WheyUP team and help spread the word.”
WheyUP, the original protein drink with energy, combines 20 grams of whey protein with an energy formula in a sugar-free, non-carbonated beverage. It represents a breakthrough in the sports drink market.
“I’ve been drinking WheyUP for several months and it really helps me during training for an upcoming fight,” said Riggs. “When I have to shed a few pounds to make weight, I don’t want to lose muscle. WheyUP provides the energy that I need for an extreme workout, but it also has the protein and amino acids to build muscle and burn fat.”
An eight-time veteran of the Ultimate Fighting Championship, Riggs (26-9-1 in MMA) has fought in the heavyweight, light heavyweight, middleweight and welterweight divisions during his stellar MMA career. Among the titles he has earned, the “Diesel” is a former WEC middleweight champion, Art of War heavyweight champion, Evolution Combat heavyweight champion, XCF light heavyweight champion, former Rage in the Cage heavyweight and middleweight champion, a four-time Desert Quest champion and a two-time Grappler’s Quest Advance champion.
Riggs made his UFC debut in 2004, defeating Canadian fighter Joe Doerksen and a few months later became the first person to stop Chris Lytle. Riggs was defeated by Matt Hughes for the UFC Welterweight title at UFC 56 in November 2005, but rebounded to win against Nick Diaz (decision) at UFC 57. Riggs’ fight against Diaz was named the UFC’s No. 7 best fight of 2006. Riggs also holds a knockout win over The Ultimate Fighter 2 winner, Kendall Grove. Most recently, Riggs knocked out seven-time UFC veteran Eugene Jackson at Strikeforce last September in the first-ever MMA event held at the Playboy Mansion.
